Congratulations to the 2010 Research Grant Award Winner!
The Cancurables Foundation continues to support cancer research through grants to researchers who are working hard to fight cancer.

On May 31st, the Cancurables Foundation unanimously voted to award a $20,000 grant to Dr. Amy Skubitz, a professor at the University of Minnesota whose research for the past 15 years has focused on ovarian cancer.

Board members commented on how pleased they were with the success Dr. Skubitz achieved with the help of two previous research grants from the Cancurables Foundation. This past year, her team made great strides to characterize two new biomarkers for ovarian cancer and develop tests for monitoring patients' blood samples for the presence of these two biomarkers. They are hopeful that these new biomarkers will bring them closer to development of a clinically useful blood test for ovarian cancer that can be used to screen the general population of women.

The 2010 grant award will be used to help Dr. Skubitz expand their efforts to research new ways to prevent recurrence of ovarian cancer. This project is based on the realization that ovarian cancer stem cells are present within the abdominal cavity of women with ovarian cancer, and that these cells need to be eradicated in order to prevent recurrence of the cancer following surgery.

The Cancurables Foundation is proud to support this vital research!

Call for Proposals:

The Cancurables Foundation is currently accepting grant proposals for research initiatives in ovarian cancer and other types of cancer which currently lack standard and routine screening methods for early detection.
